The Bay of Islands is a truly beautiful destination, and a Women’s Holidays favourite.
Women’s Holidays recently ventured to the Bay of Islands for a kayaking holiday. It was a lovely time in such an idyllic location! Many of us were novice kayakers and initially felt a bit daunted. However there was no need to worry as our Guide Gloria quickly led us through the basics. By the end of the week, we really felt confident and capable. The day began with Barbara’s stretching and yoga instruction (thank you Barbara). For those of us not so fit, by Day 5, a couple of kilos had disappeared – and what a way to say goodbye to them! Each day was a gentle kayak between Islands, with plenty of time to comfortably make our own pace.
The ocean and it’s Bay of Islands are stunning, and very, very peaceful. It’s a short kayak between each Island, and they’re each unique. We spotted much wildlife, with the highlight the endangered kiwis. Each day ended with sharing dinner under the stars in the company of a great group of women. One afternoon, we foraged for, and cooked our catch of green lip mussels – absolutely delicious. It was a great week with the Women’s Holidays crew and our multi-talented Guide; not only could Gloria ably show us all the natural beauty of the area, she was also our fabulous cook, and an extremely talented violinist.
We were truly spoilt… This really was an extremely special week, something I’ll look back on for years as a wonderful experience with a great bunch of women. It truly was a Women’s Holidays GO GIRL experience!
